TRASH & RECYCLING INFORMATION
How to be a thoughtful and respectful homeowner regarding trash and recycle bins as well as yard waste?  Follow Quail Valley's policy on the storage and timing of trash bins, recycle bins, and yard waste bags.    
 
Where should the bins and yard waste be stored during the week?
When should they be put out and brought back after service?
 
1)  Storage: store your trash bin, recycle bin, and yard waste bag(s) in your garage or behind your fence in your backyard.  Bins are encouraged to be shielded from view.  Storing them along the side of your home within view is a favorable view of Quail Valley; and  
 
2)  Timing: do not take your trash bin, recycling bin, and yard waste bag(s) to the curb prior to twenty-four (24) hours before the scheduled pick-up time.  Furthermore, your trash bin, recycling bin, and any uncollected yard waste bag(s) are expected to be returned, to the storage areas listed above, by the morning after the scheduled day of service.

TRASH HOLIDAYS in 2025 and if it affects our pickup day
New Year's Day (Wednesday, January 1st).  Our pickup will be on Thursday, January 2nd.
Memorial Day (Monday, May 26th).  Our pickup will be on Thursday, May 29th
Independence Day (Friday, July 4th).  Normal pickup on Wednesday
Labor Day (Monday, September 1st).  Our pickup will be on Thursday, September 4th.
Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 27th).  Normal pickup on Wednesday.
Christmas (Thursday, December 25th).  Normal pickup on Wednesday.
 
TRASH HOLIDAYS in 2026 and if it affects our pickup day
New Year's Day (Thursday, January 1st).  Normal pickup on Wednesday
Memorial Day (Monday, May 25th).  Our pickup will be on Thursday, May 28th
Independence Day (Saturday, July 4th).  Normal pickup on Wednesday

PLEASE NOTE -
Only holidays that fall on Monday thru Wednesday will affect your pick-up day. Holidays that fall after Wednesday or on weekend days have no effect on your schedule, and your trash will be picked up on your regularly scheduled day. See Trash Holiday Schedule on our HOME page.
 
TRASH AND RECYCLE BINS -
A Sixty-five (65) gallon bin provided by KC Disposal - Thirty-five (35) gallon bin available upon request.
  • Have ALL items at the curb by 6:00 AM.
  • Bins should be three (3) feet apart and ten (10) feet from other obstacles.
  • All trash is to be bagged and fit inside the cart with the lid closed.
  • Place bins 3' apart, 4' away from mailboxes, and 12' away from vehicles. Do not block bins from the pickup.
  • For additional recycling that doesn't fit in the bin, put it in a cardboard box next to the recycling bin, visible to the driver. Extra cardboard can be cut to be 2' X 2', flattened, and tied with a string set out by the container.
  • Additional trash & yard waste bags may be put out with a PURCHASED sticker attached to each item. 
  • Purchase your stickers through KC Disposal. Sold per sheet - five (5) per sheet - $10 per sheet. Also, some local hardware stores carry these stickers.

YARD WASTE - 
Yard waste is included. Yard waste bags can not weigh over 35 pounds. Trash and yard waste bags over the limit will each require an overage sticker that can be purchased at Shawnee City Hall and at KC Disposal’s office.

RECYCLING INFORMATION -
KC Disposal provides a 65-gal recycling bin with a green lid. The recycle bin is required for their services. If you have recycling that doesn't fit inside the cart, it may be placed in another container, and/or if you have extra boxes, they will need to be flattened and bundled together. The cardboard can be cut into 2'x2' sections, tied with string or twine, and set on the ground next to the cart for collection. BULKY ITEM PICK-UP -
KC Disposal will collect one bulky item on the last collection day of each month. If you would like to see a list of the bulky items KC Disposal will collect, please click here. Please note, that the first item to be collected will be free, and each additional item will be at the cost reflected on this price list. If you have a white good/appliance (stove, deep freeze, refrigerator, etc.), you will need to contact KC Disposal before collection.
 

 
As Quail Valley Residents, we have two convenient recycling centers near us, one for many household items that are not collected with our trash service such as glass and metal, and the other for hazardous materials, such as paint and household cleaning products.
 
 
RECYCLING CENTER - 
If you would like to recycle something that is not on the above chart, please visit the Overland Park Recycling Center which is located at 11921 Hardy St, Overland Park, behind the fire station on 119th St. Phone 913-901-6002
 
While the Recycling Center closes at 4 p.m., the last entry into the center is at 3:50 p.m. This allows visitors time to drop off items and clear the facility by closing time.

HAZARDOUS WASTE SITE - 
If you have paint and other hazardous materials to dispose of, contact Johnson County Hazardous Waste's website or call 913-715-6900 to set up an appointment for disposal. This service is free for Johnson County Residents and conveniently located at College and Hwy 69, across from the Water Treatment Facility.
